Gradarina is a study app that turns your university lecture material into quizzes, flashcards, and short-form study clips. This policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.
Who we are
Gradarina is developed and operated by David Wild, an independent developer based in Germany, currently running a closed pilot with university students. You can contact us at davidspencerwild@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, university, and course. You provide this when you sign up.
- Study content: lecture notes, PDFs, and other materials you upload. Also the quizzes, flashcards, and clips generated from them, and your answers and progress.
- Usage data: pages viewed, features used, streaks, XP, timestamps. This is anonymous or pseudonymous and helps us understand how the app is used.
- Community activity: posts, comments, and messages you choose to share with other users.
- Technical data: device type, browser, IP address, and error logs, for security and reliability.
Who processes it, and where
We use a small number of service providers to run the app. Each is bound by contract to protect your data.
- Supabase (EU region) - stores your account, uploaded content, and generated study material.
- Anthropic - processes your lecture material to generate quizzes, flashcards, and summaries. Anthropic does not train models on your data.
- PostHog (EU region) - product analytics; usage events only, no lecture content.
- Resend - transactional email (e.g. sign-in links).
- ElevenLabs - audio generation for study clips, where you choose to use it.
- Railway - application hosting.
Most processing happens in the EU or UK. Where a provider is US-based (Anthropic, PostHog, Resend, ElevenLabs, Railway), transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Why we process it
- To provide the service you asked for (generating study material from your uploads).
- To keep you signed in and remember your progress.
- To improve the app (fix bugs, measure which features help).
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Our legal basis under UK GDPR is a mix of contract (to deliver what you signed up for), legitimate interest (to improve the app and keep it secure), and consent (for optional features like community posts).
Who else sees your data
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for advertising. The only parties who see it are the processors listed above, and other users of Gradarina - and only for content you deliberately post to community areas.
How long we keep it
Your account and study material stay until you delete them. Usage analytics are retained for up to 24 months. Error logs are retained for 30 days.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can:
- Ask for a copy of your data.
- Correct anything wrong.
- Delete your account and its data.
- Object to processing.
- Withdraw consent for optional features.
- Complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local supervisory authority.

Children
Gradarina is for university students. It is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect. Small clarifications are updated here with a new "Last updated" date.
